BASEF Bursary Programs help students in need of financial assistance to start or complete their science fair project. Two programs are available for the 2025 fair:
Financial Assistance
Up to 10 bursaries of $30.00 each will be awarded to Grade 7 to 12 students in BASEF’s catchment area to assist with their project. Teachers are able to nominate students on their behalf. In order to be more accessible to students, we will be accepting student-based nominations.

ARDUINO Kit
Up to 10 Arduino kits free of charge including:
• Project Starter Kit with Arduino microcontroller, prototype board, etc.
• 37 in 1 Sensor Modules Kit compatible with Arduino
• Digital Multimeter for measuring voltage, current, resistance, etc.

Student Requirements:
- bursaries are intended for students in financial need;
- students must be in grades 7 through 12;
- students must reside in the BASEF catchment area — the City of Hamilton, the Regional Municipality of Halton, Six Nations, Haldimand, Norfolk, and Brant Counties;
- only one (1) package is allowed per project.
How to Apply:
- Teachers in the BASEF catchment area can apply on behalf of students in financial need.
- Students, or teachers on behalf of students, can apply for EITHER the BASEF $30 cash bursary OR the BASEF Arduino Kit bursary but NOT both. Only apply for one (1) bursary per project.
- Arduino Kit bursaries will be provided for up to 10 projects, based on the order in which applications are submitted.
