Abstract There is a prominent and challenging energy shortage in the Atlantic provinces of Canada which leaves hundreds of thousands of citizens in crisis. In addition, millions of Africans from Sub-Saharan countries suffer an energy shortage epidemic where there is a complete and total lack of access to proper energy sources. The quality of life is drastically impacted as locals must resort to cooking indoors using the materials around them, often coal, kerosene, fuel. Even something as simple as batteries for household appliances are scarce, and often too expensive for these communities. This leads to the release of deadly greenhouse gases in the atmosphere resulting in millions of premature deaths in Africa. We have decided to innovate an energy storage tool using an extremely abundant material known as sodium that can have an energy density similar to a lithium ion battery.
