Abstract Turbulence has primarily been understood phenomenologically through observations and empirical data. This project aims to bridge the gaps between mathematical descriptions and physical mechanisms by proposing a collision-based model grounded in kinetic molecular theory. This model elucidates the physical causes of turbulence, its intermittency, and its scales of motion, providing a probabilistic approach to comprehending this complex phenomenon.
