Abstract The U.S tariffs will make Canadian steel and Aluminum more expensive when it enters the U.S market. If these tariffs continue, the Steel industry in Canada will eventually fail and will cause considerable job losses. The Canadian government has created the Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) and the grants from this fund will be used to support projects related to Strategy and Innovation and make Canadian Steel companies more cost-efficient. Through this project, I would like to understand and calculate the carbon footprint of steel made in Canada vs. Steel imported from China. If the carbon footprint comparison shows that the Canadian Steel has a lower carbon footprint than imported steel, then all Canadians and Canadian manufacturers should use MADE IN CANADA Steel only.
