Abstract Global water sources are rapidly diminishing and more than 1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water. The purpose of this project is to develop novel passive devices to produce potable water both from the atmosphere and from contaminated surface water. The objective is to alleviate the water crisis in developing countries, where shortages are most acute and energy not available for alternative supply.
