Due to their water absorption capacity, compatible biological properties, biodegradability and thermoresponsitivity, “smart” hydrogels serve for potential use in drug delivery applications. Block co-polymers of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) and 2-hydroxyethylacrylamide (HEA) have been synthesized. By varying the chain length of HEA and the location of the hydrazide functionalization in the pNIPAM-b-HEA co-polymers, polymer properties may be tuned for a more sustained release kinetics of a hydrophilic drug. |
