Abstract |
The purpose of this experiment was to determine whether people act differently anonymously versus non-anonymously, and my hypothesis was that people will act more mean and not care about the feelings of others when they are anonymous. I believe that both the hypothesis and the purpose were fulfilled. After careful research and experimentation, I determined that people's morals and inhibitions drop while being anonymous. Multiple experiments have been conducted over the years, and these experiments showed me that time and time again that people become less sensitive and angry when anonymous. To start out this project I researched experiments that have been run in the past and I was inspired to run an experiment myself. To do this experiment I had to create two surveys which would tell me if people really act differently when being anonymous. These surveys had the exact same questions on them. The only difference is that I could see who answered which question on the first one, but it was totally anonymous on the second. After all the results came back to me I studied them carefully and I found that even if it was just a small difference, people do give their real, harsher opinions while anonymous versus not anonymous. |
